About David

David  is a pioneer in the mobile DJ industry and FM radio. In New York in 1975, as a guitarist in his own Chicago style band called Park Avenue, found that between sets when the band stopped playing to take breaks and played a tape, the audience lost the upbeat mood established by the band prior to the break. He then plugged two 8-track players into his guitar amplifier and tailored the music to the audience. Although not getting much rest on those breaks, he soon found that the audience loved to hear the original songs played back to back in an "live mixed" way. Soon after assembling a state of the art console system he was firmly established as a mobile Disc Jockey.

Also around the same time FM radio was still new. Car radios still had AM on top of the dial, no stereo yet and none of the big networks like NBC, CBS or ABC were promoting or using FM yet. David applied for and received a Class D 10 watt radio station license from the FCC. He went on the air with local volunteer DJ's with a format that was unheard of at the time, mixing club type dance music just as if you were out in the club on a Saturday night. Soon most of Long Island which the station signal covered very well had the radio station bumper stickers on their cars and many people wearing the station T-shirts. They had contests and fun. Experimented with stereo by having talk on one channel and a song on the other. After the local New York ratings came out and the small station was ranked so high it took the big networks by storm and they quickly jumped on FM. The FCC also then raised the minimum power to 2,000 watts and if you only went to 2,000 watts you had to go to 92.1 or below on the dial where college stations and non-profit stations were being allocated to. David's station was a non-commercial effort staffed with volunteers, no money for the thousands of dollars needed for Engineering surveys, Tower permits, new high powered expensive equipment so he voluntarily gave up the Class D license. People always ask about and reminisce about the station whenever visiting New York.

David has been into Electronics and Computers since High School. He has been on-line since 1983 long before the Internet became what it is now.  David's Resume Web Page
